Fire is one of the classical elements in ancient Greek philosophy and science. Much of that lore has come down to Wicca through the Western occult tradition.
In the spirit of many Wiccan traditions, I associate fire with the south, with the power of the will, of transformation, the midday sun, the colors red and orange, summer, youth, and the athame. Obviously, fire can be destructive, but it can also be creative. It keeps us warm, cooks our food, and lights our way in the darkness. The importance of fire to humanity is highlighted in the many myths that exist across cultures about how humans came to acquire fire and how it changed us.
Fire is the most important element in my life. It is everywhere. My sun sign is Sagittarius, a fire sign, and I have a lot of fire in my natal chart. I carry a lot of the qualities fire is associated with. I like challenge and change. I want to be able to challenge myself, develop my will, and transform the things I don't like. Fire is associated with my spirit animal, Snake, and also with the orisha that rules my crown, Ogun, the smith, as well as with the goddess Brigid, who is very special to me.
What about you? Do you have any thoughts on elemental fire?

I'm a lot like you. Fire is the element I feel most drawn to. I'm an Aries and I also hold the goddess Brighid dear. Usually during meditations and during healing, people see me dancing with fire snakes. I think all this is tied to my creativity and my desire to constantly improve and change myself.
ReplyDeleteI just recently started reading your blog, and I am happy to hear you are also a fire sister. The 44 Days of Witchery is a wonderful idea.
Thanks! I got the idea from the Domestic Pagan: http://thedomesticpagan.tumblr.com/post/8971788080/little-city-witch-44-days-of-witchery-my-pagan-witchy
ReplyDeleteI think it was a Tumblr meme.
